Supreme Court Upholds First Amendment

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

The Supreme Court ruled on Thursday in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, in favor of the First Amendment.  Before the ruling, the government had a blanket prohibition on corporate political speech.

Those who criticize this decision have lost sight of a basic truth: the answer to speech they disagree with is not to restrict that speech, but to answer it with more speech.

Unfortunately, some in Congress are using this decision to push for a government takeover of political campaigns through the misnamed “Fair Elections Now Act,” which has over 100 sponsors (all but three of them Democrats) in the House. This legislation would use tax dollars to fund congressional campaigns.

Apparently the democrat congress are the only ones that don’t see the wisdom in this decision. The ACLU joined with the NRA, and the AFL-CIO joined with the Chamber of Commerce in support of Citizens United and the First Amendment. Strange bedfellows all fighting for the same good.

Obama Takes Aim At Banking Industry

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

On Wednesday the banking industry became the latest target in Obama’s war against the American economy.  Obama made his speech saying that banks should be able to take deposits or invest, but not both.

Two minutes later nearly $30 billion was wiped off the value of America’s top shares as traders reeled at Obama’s proposal to split up Wall Street’s banks.

Germany’s BdB banking association Friday slammed U.S. President Barack Obama’s proposals to limit U.S. banking activities, saying they could hamper the performance of banks and the economy.

Those plans “won’t improve the stability of the financial system,” said the association, which represents German commercial banks such as Deutsche Bank AG (DB), Commerzbank AG (CBK.XE) and Deutsche Postbank AG (DPB.XE).

“Those plans threaten predominantly the capability of the U.S. as a financial center and eventually (would) hurt the entire global financial system. This would have negative consequences, notably for economic growth,” said the association’s managing director, Manfred Weber.

Obama Thursday outlined a plan to prevent commercial banks and institutions that own banks from operating and investing in hedge funds and private equity firms, while capping proprietary trading.

Air America Down The Tubes

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Air America Radio, a progressive radio network that once aired commentary from Al Franken and Rachel Maddow, is shutting down.

The company founded in April 2004 says it is ceasing operations Thursday afternoon and will soon file to be liquidated under Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Air America says 10 consecutive quarters of declining ad revenue and the difficulty of making money on the Internet contributed to its financial woes.

Well, what do you know?  People don’t want to listen to traitors spewing lies and hatred!

I for one will remember Air America in the same way I remember a rude joke.

All Eyes On Massachusetts

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

It’s voting day in America.  There are many important races and issues being voted on.  The one with the highest profile is probably the special election to fill the Massachusetts Senate seat vacated by the late Ted Kennedy.

Just the fact that there is a genuine race for this seat in Massachusetts is big news by itself.  (Massachusetts is about as liberal as a population can be outside of Europe.)

Now the Republican candidate, Scott Brown is not what I would call a perfect conservative, but this is Massachusetts, and if elected Scott Browns senate vote can put a stop to government health care and Cap’n Tax.

Even is Brown loses by a small margin it will strike fear into the hearts of democrats across the country.  It’s Massachusetts, it’s Ted Kennedy’s seat, democrats own Congress, Obama-care is sooo close; if the democrats lose this one – it’s huge.

Obama’s handlers will become more visible as they try to push the progressive agenda ahead further.

We’re pushing a crazed, frenzied political animal into a corner.  This animal is not going to slink away, it will fight back.  The up side will be that it will be revealed for the dangerous self serving creature it is.  The down side is that it might take some desperate steps to fight back.  People, institutions, reputations may get hurt in the process.

Good luck Scott Brown – I hope you have a decisive victory there in Massachusetts.

White House Says “There Was No Smoking Gun”

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

If it wasn’t so scary, it would be funny.  The Obama administration simply is not capable of taking responsibility for anything.

Referring to the failed Christmas airplane bombing, White House aide John Brennan said, “There is no smoking gun.”  This is the top CIA guy in the White House.  He is all about counter intelligence.

Now, I’m NOT a CIA guy and I’ll bet you aren’t either, but let’s take a peek at some clues and see if we can come up with a suggested plan of action for the inept White House.

OK, a guy named Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab from Nigeria want to get on a plane bound for the United States.

Umar does not have a passport.

Umar bought a one-way ticket, with cash.

Umar has no luggage.

A couple weeks earlier Umar’s father told US intelligence that he was concerned about Umar’s increasing radical views.

As it turns out, it was Umar’s underpants that ended up smoking.  Now, maybe I wouldn’t have guessed that Umar was going to try to blow up the plane; genitals first, but I know that I would have at least pulled this whack job to the side for some additional screening.

What the hell is wrong with the White House?
