U.S. Senate Votes to Uphold Second Amendment in Washington, D.C.

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Fairfax, Va. – The United States Senate has voted, with overwhelming bipartisan support, to adopt an amendment offered by Senator John Ensign (R-NV) that seeks to protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens in the District of Columbia. The amendment, attached to S.160, the D.C. Voting Rights Act, will repeal restrictive gun control laws passed by the District of Columbia’s (D.C.) city council after the landmark D.C. v. Heller Supreme Court decision. The vote margin was 62-36.

“Today’s vote brings us one step closer to restoring the Second Amendment freedom of law-abiding D.C. residents,” said NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox. “It’s ludicrous that good people in our nation’s capital continue to be harassed as they try to defend themselves and their loved ones in their own homes. This vote reinforces the historic Heller ruling.”

After the Heller ruling, the D.C. city council passed a law requiring would-be gun owners to pay a registration fee, pass a 20-question multiple choice test, take a five-hour training course, undergo an invasive background check every six years, re-register any firearm every three years, and finally, submit all handguns for ballistics testin

Bobby Jindal’s GOP Response

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

The highlight of the evening for me was Bobby Jindal.  I love this guy – I think a lot of other people do too; and maybe that’s why he was given the opportunity to deliver the GOP response to Obama’s speech.

Governor Jindal comes across like a real person.  He tells it like it is.  He sees the government bureaucracy for what it is; inefficientand over reaching.  He has taken on quite a challenge in governing Louisiana.  He’s cleaned up a lot of corruption that Louisinana politics had been infamous for.  He’s found ways to save money by trimming away at unecessary goverment spending.  Exactly what the federal government should be doing.  In fact Governor Jindal is carefully analyzing the stimulus bill and has announced his intentions to take a pass.  We’ll have to see if the Fed’s allow that or if like typical mobsters force it on states that don’t want it.

If you missed his address, please take a moment to watch it now.

Obama Does Read Well

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Well, you do have to admit that Obama reads well in public.  I can see how people can get sucked in to the rhetoric.

Much of what he promises we’ll just have to wait and see if it comes anywhere close to developing.  Some of what he had to say is just plain hypocrisy.  Three or four times he mentioned having inherited a $1.3 trillion dollar deficit.  (Did you notice how the democrats cheered when he did that?)  Maybe no one told him that a good portion of that number developed the two years before he took office, when we had a democrat Congress.  Or how about the fact that he piled on another trillion within his first 30 days in office!

I found the speech disappointing at best.

Obama’s First Congressional Address

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

obamaPresident Obama will make his first congressional address tonight on the Hill.  We’re all invited to watch and listen.

This ought to be good.  Last week he signed a record setting spending bill that will put America into debt that we’ll most likely never be able to pay off.  Since then people have actually had an opportunity to read the stimulus bill and found an endless string of liberal pet projects and very little that might be thought of an economic stimulus.

Yesterday the president said that he is developing a plan to pay off half of the fedearal deficit by the end of his first term.

On Monday President Obama said, “This will not be easy. It will require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges we’ve long neglected.”

That kind of rhetoric makes me a little skittish.  I see new and higher taxes in our future.  I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some hefty cuts in military spending.  I am really scared that he will take what ever we have left in our Soical Security accounts leaving Baby Boomers totally up the river as they near retirement age.

The man is not to be trusted good reader.

JindalI look forward to listening to Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal deliver the Republican response.  Governor Jindal is a really bright guy and consistently on the right side of most political discussion.  He does not pull punches and will help sort through what ever flavor of baloney President Obama is serving tonight.

Stimulus Bill Opposition

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I think we did a pretty good job opposing the very reckless stimulus bill.  I’m especially proud of House Republicans that stood united against the bill.  It was just the democrats that voted for it in the House.

The Senate voted 60-38 for the bill, with RINO Senators Susan Collins (ME), Olympia Snowe (ME), and Arlen Specter, (PA) delivering the victory for Obama and the liberals.

The obvious split down party lines is is huge.  When the bill fails to deliver anything substantial to the general public, it will be crystal clear who is responsible.

Torch and Fork Freedom Fighters Action Step

  • Thank the Representatives and Senators that voted NO.
  • Tell all the rest how you feel about what they have done.

The Federal Capital Phone number is 202-224-3121.  The number is often busy these days but when they answer, ask to speak to the legislator of your choice.  You don’t often get to actually talk to them directly, but you can leave a message with their office staff.  It’s their job to listen, to take notes and pass your comments on.

I know I always felt that sending a regular letter in via US Mail would be better, but I found that Congressional mail security screening can actually delay delivery two to three weeks!

Sending email is getting more difficult unless you live in their district / state.  Members of Congress only want to accept email messages from their own constiuents.

FAX’ing is a great alternative.  You get the immediate delivery of an email combined with a physical piece of paper like a letter, your FAX is far more likely to get through the first time, and you can FAX to any member you want!

You can find a complete listing of all the members of Congress using this link – Contact Elected Officials: USA.gov.

You can actually read the bill at http://thomas.loc.gov/  Right now a link to the bill is on the front page.  They may take that link down in the future, so just do a search for bill number HR1.

Obama Can’t Be Trusted

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

Obama has taken flip-flopping to a new level.  48 million people recognized that before the election.  Now the natives are getting restless across the whole country and his popularity lessens everyday.

They’re Stealing Our Country

Friday, February 20th, 2009

The United States is being stolen from it’s citizens right before our eyes.  Of course you know that or you wouldn’t have searched for and found this web site.

The question is; what can we do about it?  We’re going to figure it out together right here, and in our homes talking to friends, neighbors and family.

I think one of the problems has been our own complacency.  For decades we’ve stood by and watched our culture crack, rot and crumble.  In the past it’s been in dribs and drabs; things seemingly small but making a chink in America’s armor none the less.

We winced when we saw somebody burning the flag for the first time decades ago and maybe grumbled when were told that the flag burner was protected by first amendment rights.    For the most part we remained quiet.

They stole our Social Security funds and put them into the General Fund; we remained quiet.

Congress turned against our President and military, openly, while at war; we remained quiet.

Now they are in the process of nationalizing our banking system and key industries, planning to silence opposing voices on the radio, stealing the treasure of the working man and woman and giving it away to the special interests that mobilze hundreds of thousands of drones satisfied with the pittance the government the government will give them.
